HG Motorsport Intake Pipe Hitting Fuel Pump!
#1

Recently fitted a HG motorsport intake pipe to my car but it keeps hitting my fuel pump. It’s left a lovely graze in my new pipe
I’ve twisted it around to try make more room but it keeps catching. I can’t see what I’m doing wrong to be honest.
I’m 99.9% sure it’s the right way as well but I could be wrong (hope I’m not)
Cheers

Loosen everything off a little bit Inc the hose onto the turbo & as T800 has suggested rotate the metal intake pipe back away from the HPFP,then retighten everything.
I've fitted a couple & have one myself....they are a bit fiddly tbh.

Is yours slightly on top of your pump? I’ll try rotate it again

Bobby.
Rotate it backwards towards the firewall to get clearance then tighten up the hoses starting at the airbox & rotate the hose on the turbo to match.
Do all the lining up loose before tighten.
The photo looks like it's above the HPFP but it's slightly going behind it.

This helps massively! I’ll give it a go and take a picture and hopefully solve me issues. They are fiddly!
I was half tempted to poly bush my engine mounts!

So I’ve twisted it and it looks like it’s slightly over the fuel pump which I’m now hoping it doesn’t hit and slides under it. As I attempted to shake the air box and see what kind of movement I had.

RS3Dell it looks like it’s still hitting!! It’s ever so slightly now but I need to still adjust it.
I’ve bought some power flex bushes for the engine transmission mount, so I don’t know if that will help

Booby.
Tbh i don't think your rotating the pipe back far enough towards the firewall which will drop the pipe slightly lower & behind the HPFP.
You photos like mine can be a bit deceptive.
Depending on your RS milage the dogbone & gearbox mounts may be worn.

It’s only 40k miles and dog bone mount has 034 insert and Audi replaces the engine transmission mount 10k or less miles ago.
But you might be right don’t think I’ve twisted it enough. I’ve got some gold forge tape coming tomorrow, so when I go to fit my power flex inserts, I’ll wrap and then refit it all. Fingers crossed!

If rotating it doesn’t give you more then pulling it out of the coupler a few mm will give you more height.

That’s an idea!

Whilst I was fitting my powerflex inserts for my upper gearbox mount, I had a chance to take this pipe out and refit it properly. Also wrapped it in some extra bling . Hoping I’ve rotated it enough so it doesn’t hit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The blng makes it hard to see if there's enough clearance with the HPFP now 😂
I notice you have a Pipercross drop in filter.... I'll keep an eye on it as they can break up with disastrous consequences for your turbo.
I checked mine & it had started to break up near the sealing edge where the reinforcing mesh meets the seal.
I now have a BMC filter fitted.

RS3Dell T-800 cheers guys, I’ll look into get a BMC filter, I’ve only had it fitted about 500 miles or so. I’ll check it soon just to make sure I don’t have any issues!
I was also recommended a green cotton filter, anyone use that or recommend in?

Mind if I ask where you guys ordered the intake pipe from? It seems to be a good purchase for the price, even with the faffing around!

I got mine from a company called HAZ Motorsport, I got it the following day after ordering it. Give them a shout they are pretty good!
But I did find a 3.5” one on eBay after I bought mine... If I had known of it earlier, I would of gone for the bigger one...
