Been advised it's a big job - It's behind the alternator and oil cooler so they both have to come off.

The Independent garage also advised air con has got to be disconnected, Radiators off etc - basically front end off.

Does this sound right? Anyone else done it?

Thanks.

I`ve just checked on Elsawin.

Remove radiator cowl

Remove air cleaner housing.

Voila there is the thermostat housing. But you do need to remove one hose.

Sounds a huge job. Not.

Lol m8 what elsawin says and in practice is two different things, I've done one before not a nice job, there is plenty of other stuff in the way. But alternator and air con pipe dont have to be touched the said garage can take an hour labour off

Takes a fairly long time to reach 90 - sometimes doesn't reach (just slightly under) does seem to reach when stationary in traffic and sometimes does stay around 90 after reaching for a fair while then can drop again to 80-85ish out of nowhere.

Doesn't seem to go that low but 80-85 seems a bit off when should be bang on 90.

Have you checked the water temperature as the engine warms up using VCDs or the like as the gauge isn't that accurate.

Sounds like your N492 valve has failed, inspect that first before going into the stat. Takes around 2minutes to check if faulty and around 20mins to replace.

My old 8p had a very similar fault to the Op, and it was that valve causing my problems! After Audi had the car for 10 days failing to repair or even acknowledge that there was even a fault there, Ben at TTU gave me some welcomed free advice I passed on Bens advice to Audi and hey presto running fine affer a quick and simple part replacement.

Interesting - literally was just the valve?

How much was that part mate? Do you know the part number?

Ben

That will explain my low temperature in the cabin when it very cold outside if the valve is stuck open.

I'll be changing the N492 valve pdq .

Yeah think I'll order one too.

Have you had any issues with your gauge or just heat in cabin?
