She has got a 2L TDi S Line.

It threw a brake fluid warning light today so I got dragged out into the arctic conditions to have a look.

The twin cable connection to the fluid sensor in the brake fluid reservoir have broken at the sensor. The question is that if I strip another 5mm of the cable to refit is the loom long enough to accommodate or should I just splice a new bit of cable onto the loom ends? It seems a bit pedantic but there really doesn't seem to be much play in the loom...

Is there play in the loom to accommodate cutting and re-working it ?

Just re-read it.

You could splice some extra cable in.

Then use the oem cloth loom tape to finish.

There is just enough cable showing to be able to splice a new one on.  If I strip and reconnect I would have to open up the tape to release a bit more wire to be able to splice.  And this is a spur on the loom so that would be a bit of a ball ache.

It is kind of answering itself really isn't it....

It is really

You could end up stressing the loom as it’ll be too tight.

It was probably too tight in the first place!

The 1st question is how the f##ked did it break as the loom for the plug is quite long ?

I'll would just connect 2 new wires to the plug/loom & cloth tape it job done.

Dell.

Looking at the shorter wire it would have been under stress from the loom - god knows about the longer one though.

A bit of new cable and some cloth tape is the way to go. Perhaps a bit of inept solder on the splice (not my best ability for some reason).

My loom seems to have quite a bit of wire as it doubles back on itself before the plug.

See if you can get a plug and length of lead from a scrappy and spice them together nearer the loom 😊 Standard connector from any 8P A3.

Cheers Duke - not sure how the cbales secure to the plug but am incline to bodge a solution together.  If not, as you say, the scrappy is the answer - rip out a plug & tails - job done.
