Suppose they are worth a try. Must be cheaper and probably better than Audi. As has been said previously. To do both chains the gearbox has to come out.It might be worth changing the DMF at the same time.

I have read that apparently a software update can be applied and that has fixed the issuer is there any way to check if this has been done?

The engine has two oil pump pressures. Low for slow speed / cold start high everything else. Mine had the update done prior to having the chains replaced. It did **** all. Nothing.  The update keeps it on high pressure all the time.

easiest way to confirm its the chain, when you start from cold give the throttle a quick blip you will hear the chain rattle like mad. the update from Audi is a way to mask the problem, it works via them disabling the oil pressure valve and giving full oil pressure before 3k rpm. this from factory was fitted to help with less drag in the engine to produce less emissions to pass EU law, not realising this also causes premature failure and stress.

When we have done them before and found problems it can be due to the top tensioner or vvt pulleys, very rare i see a stretched chain unless it has high miles.

either way them videos suggest chain rattle to me.

as 0120raptor said if doing the chains its worth replacing DMF

i can not see any indi using genuine parts and doing the hole job for £2k the vvt pulleys alone cost £696.00

I have contacted to guys who I use and I’m waiting for a response. Is there no way to check apart from the noise or dismantle the car? I’m completely new to all this stuff so obviously a bit worried I have only owned the car 18 month and don’t really like the idea of having to pay out £4k in repairs. How much extra does the DMF cost (I’m guessing that’s dual mass flywheel)?

DMF when changed mine in our 3.2 TT was £400 plus the cost of new bolts.

You couldn’t back then (2014) buy a DSG DM flywheel from a 3rd party either, only the manual version for some reason, but I’d always go oem for one anyway.

As said above the cam variators are best part of £700 each so to do a proper job there’s a bill already of £1800 in parts, plus chain / guides / bolts etc etc so well over 2k alone

The joys long life components that are located on the gear box side of the engine

Right I have been back out and done as benTTU said car hasn’t been driven for nearly two weeks the first video is revving the car while cold start is on (which I never do btw) and second video is revving when the cold start has just come off. I can’t hear any chain rattling sounds but maybe my ears aren’t as tuned to noticing the noise as other people.

It will show up more if you hold it around 2000 / 2400 rpm. It will suddenly go very tappetty but probably won`t do it every time. Mine was very dependent on engine temp .

Dell you have to be careful about online sites selling dmf kits, lots are copies of Sachs or luk.... a company up north got done for miss selling genuine goods. A genuine oem Audi dmf is £800+vat.

Regards to the videos, record over the oil cap cover not by the injectors, all I can here is injectors and nothing else. And dont be so excessive with the revs, a sharp short blip to about 3k rpm and let it over run that's when you tend to here the noise.

Yes cold start, wait for it to come off choke.

Or the other option is to bring it in to us or take it to a local indi that has dealt with these cars before, reason I say this is ive seen alot of indi garages that tend to deal with more day to day vag rather then the rs range.

Ok so if I sort of just rev it up to 2-2.5k and let it off when it’s off choke and video over the oil cap you should be able to hear?

These are the guys I use they do quite a bit on RS models: https://www.facebook.com/unit20/
