I`m still in two minds if to buy coilovers or not. The main thing that puts me off is that two people totally unconnected with each other have told me they are a bad idea. One has a Cosworth Sierra the other a very quick A3 TDI. Both have coilovers and both have had the chassis crack where the top damper mounting bolts on. That mounting was never designed to carry the weight of the car which it does on coilovers but not in separate spring/dampers. Anyone seen any cracks. ?

Neil.

There no different on our RSs with coilovers fitted to the oem set up.

The front still uses a Macpherson strut arragment but just the spring platform is now adjustable unlike the oem spring set up mate.

I`m a wally.  The guy from Bilstein should get his facts right. He told me the rears were coilover ,same as the fronts. Just looked on their website.Separate dampers and springs. My mate definately has rear coilovers on his A3. I`ve seen them.

All the 8L,8P & 8v A3s have separate springs & dampers on there rears.

I don't know what set up you saw on your mates but its not the standard arrangement mate.

Not my pals A3.  Probably why it`s cracked the damper mounting
