On the 8p the design of the oem breather is just a plastic line from the gearbox bolted to the side of the engine cylinder head with a cap on top. The oil squirts out and runs down the side of the engine and box. Not only does it make a mess you are also lossing dsg oil.

The 8v design is slightly better it has a canister on the end of the line with a cap on top, clamped to the air box. But I quickly found out the oil was squirting out and covering my ECU and wiring harness in oil.

So a couple months ago I designed my own breather kit. It is a bolt on DIY job and works really well.

We can offer this kit for £98.00 posted. group buys we can knock 10% off.

Hello mate, I presume it was yourself I was speaking with on Instagram a few weeks back?

My old gearbox ejected quite a proportion out of the breather and onto the manifold whilst going down the A19, which turned into a thick ploom of smoke. I thought I’d blew an oil seal by overfilling my oil or something but the breather was dripping wet. However I simply can not find a breather on my new box, so if anyone could point me to it I’d much appreciate it. My thoughts are that it’s here;

I’d be keen to get one of these if I can find if the new box has a breather, I know first hand how bad it can be 👍🏻

FYI guys, this is the breather and is under the plastic/carbon fibre trim piece around the oil cap 👍🏻It was removed whilst I tried to identify what it was and whilst I cleaned it up.

Cheers for the photo Del

I’m really curious to see if it’s there or simply not been refitted when they put the new box in... it wouldn’t surprise me

Do you supply a new pipe with your breather? I seem to be lacking one

That’s good to know, cheers Jay!

The updated/wrongly fitted version I have on mine seems worse than it was?

Put my name down for one if you decide to start a group buy. I’ve just purchased myself a private plate so one of these will have to wait till pay day haha. Cheers!

That breather as showen is normally mounted to the end of a pipe clipped at the middle of the end of the rocker cover.

aye the old one was mate but this one isn't, its also slightly different and looks more like the one that comes on the 8V. But im pretty sure they have been lazy when fitting it. Will certainly get one of these breathers to replace it!

Fitted today and was a doddle :) the hardest bit was removing the old breather which I ended up destroying haha. Think I’m going to get a black filter for the top to better fit with the bay but they are spot on 👍🏻 Might finally have an oil free undertray haha

Mine just pulled off really easy and didn’t break so I’ll be able to swap it out if and when return to stock.
