Hi,
I'm looking to buy an RS3 Sportback in the U.K., although I'm currently living in FL. I've owned a ton of Audi's in the U.K. and US for probably the last 15 years. I'm particularly into Avants, which isn't so easy in the US ! I've has a few nice Audi's, but never an RS model, so it's time to treat myself.
I've already found some useful info on here regarding spec to order. Still have concerns about Sport exhaust as I can't seem to clarify if it's noisy from a cold start, or just when the valves open in dynamic (or I believe you can manually open them with a switch). I'd love to enjoy the 5cyl sound more when it's appropriate, but I'm not so sure my family and neighbors really want to 'enjoy' it when I leave the house at 5am ! If anyone has any helpful info it would be appreciated. I gather there's differences in the exhaust specs country to country also.
Other than that I think I pretty much have my build figured out.
Rob

It is not exactly quiet in Comfort (valves closed) either.

Also, there is an annying rattle in the cat on a cold start as part of the accellerated cat pre-heat sequence which is overcome by starting in Dynamic hence the elaborate startup button play - AWG code, 5 presses on drive select, a press on TC and a start/stop disable.

If you want to sort your nav and audio it starts to feel like you are preparing for a space shuttle launch.......

Or fit active exhaust controller.
No more rattle on start up.

Check systems for launch. Go go go.

Either way the valves are open so the neighbours best fit the ear defenders.  Look on the bright side - you save them the effort of setting the alarm or getting woken up by the bin lorry.

Ah yes but closing them using the Active valve still stops the rattle.

Useful in theory - I like making the racket anyway. The neighbours are going to throw a party when I move in 4 months time!

Thanks for the info. Looks like the sports exhaust isn't going to work for me - which is not what I wanted to hear. I was hoping it was just like the regular exhaust until you wanted it not to be, if you see what I mean.

Welcome Rob!

The cold start with the optional sports exhaust is quite loud but I believe it can be removed/coded out by a remap, so might be easy to overcome in that respect.

As for the day to day noise, in comfort mode I think it's pretty quiet.  So long as you don't stamp on the loud pedal and just accelerate with normal levels or pressure applied you're fine.  Then when the mood takes you and all the fluids are warm, chuck it in to dynamic mode and enjoy the symphony!

Always starts loud unless you get valve control so you can keep them shut at start up as T800 says.
