Hi Guys

I need some help please, I have been getting EPC fault on occasion and the code is P164B  Oil pressure switch

so I replaced both sensors there is one at the Oil filter housing and then another one further down

the brown one by the oil filter housing is a 0.55Bar sensor and small hole with 2 pin connector.

the other one is a blue connector rated at 2.5 Bar and has a larger hole but completely different to the brown one

also this one has a single pin.

So I replaced the Blue single pin one first as it's a real bastard to get to ,the car ran fine and I also then replaced the brown one by the oil filter housing just to make double sure, took the car for a drive and it was fine the first time. I then went to get the wife and on my way there I tried everything to get the code to pop up.

Previously it would only pop up under high load and then just before 3000rpm so basically going up an uphill, and then gearing down so that it goes above 3000rpm and it would come up, it would not appear at any other stage.

So I then tried another way by changing gears quickly while flooring it and then basically forcing the car to boost hard and surely just before 3000rpm the EPC would light up and limit me from going past 4000rpm.

I scanned the car again and P164B was the only error present. Now I am slightly lost as I do not think this is oil pump related as it works at any rpm below and above 3000pm I can drive hard and nothing would happen but as soon as I try this trick it would come up.

There are a few guys who had this on other Audi's and even Golf 2.0T's but they don't really come up with a solution some replaced the sensor and it sorted the problem others did it and still has the error.

I am at this stage so fed up with this car as working on it is a nightmare and you always have to wait a whole day to work on it as it's as hot as hell, I already burned both my hands to a crisp when I had to go and get the wife the other day when she got stuck with this code.

Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

  • LocationUsually in the dyno cell

Jaques

You need to remove the blue switch and fit an oil pressure gauge to see what the actual pressure is before you do anything else..

So I must remove the sensor at the bottom behind that metal plate just above the oil pressure solenoid ,and not the one on the oil filter howsing

The Audi guys mechanically checked the pressures Last time the car was in for the cam chain problem as they wanted to eliminate the oil pump while doing fault finding. The pressures as withing spec.
