Worse when cold, when turning at slow speeds I sometimes get a jerk or skip from the front of the car. Feels like tyre scrub or slip.Rather noticeable.

Any ideas?

I had this exact scenario happen to me on the M5 today, although it was starting to snow.

I found it to be poor quality tyres and tracking was out.

It`s anti Ackerman steering angle. Nothing to worry about. Also nothing you can do about it.

As raptor says this is all b0llocks. Cold tyres at full lock have F/A traction. Mine do it every morning in this everlasting winter (I thought climate change promised summer all year round btw or was it total annihilation - I forget the latest). The camber on the wheels mean that, at full lock, there is minimal rubber in contact with the road surface. No biggie.

4 wheel alignment has been done and they are high end tyres.

It doeant have to be on full lock for it to happen, does it on half lock too? Is this really normal?! Never had it on my golf r32’s or my b7 RS4

I’ve had my 8p do it with decent tyres also. I suppose unfortunately you can’t compare model to model as they will all have different steering geometry.

Ok thanks mate. Just thought it was odd as never had it on my previous cars and only googling stuff came up with porsches being affected, rather than the haldex RS3.

Find it odd that this skipping is normal as it isnt a common thread on this forum

It`s not a common thread because people are used to it. With 100% ackerman the inside wheel turns more than the outside to avoid the skipping. Due to chassis set up it`s not always possible to place the steering rack in an ideal position to give 100% ackerman. That`s the case with the RS3. So the inside wheel doesn`t change angle enough in turns. Hence the skipping ,hopping call it what you will.It doesn`t do any harm in fact it helps to quell understeer at high speed because the inside wheel has more slip angle so gives more grip.

Same here in my 8V, get it most days when reversing off the drive and the turning no full lock into my main road. Was worse when the tyres started to wear down and I guess it also accelerates wear on the edges of the tyres too?

Wear on the edges you say never
That’s another debate that rages on elsewhere......
