Update on the Scorpion downpipe:
As mentioned in my previous posts, Scorpion Exhausts invited me to their HQ in Ripley to resolve the fitting issue with the downpipe and decat. The system they supplied checked out OK for fitment to their manufacturing jigs. The car then went into their development workshop and their technicians fitted the downpipe to the car and confirmed that the under-body heat shield prevents the mid pipes from being properly aligned. After checking their own product development pictures, it could be seen that the under-body heat shield now has a raised rib section pressed into it compared to the car on which the development part was fitted. The technicians then spent several hours fabricating a revised downpipe section which diverted the mid-section away from the heat shield and aligned with the mid-pipes in the middle of the central driveshaft tunnel. I opted for the decat section to be fitted (as a direct comparison with the Milltek) but I could also still swap this short section for the 200 cell sports cat if desired.
The end result is a great sounding exhaust note, more sonorous and a deeper growl than the Milltek but not as loud - which suits me as the Milltek is bonkers loud.
I have to say that the staff at Scorpion Exhausts were fantastic and professional, they kept me informed of the various developments throughout the day and allowed me to observe all the work being done to my car.
It was an interesting drive home as I had driven up to Ripley with the Milltek decat fitted to the car. This has given me the opportunity to do a back to back comparison with the Scorpion DP.
Noise:
This is the bone of contention for a lot of owners of the FL car. In my opinion the Milltek DP with decat on the FL car is way louder than my old PFL car with the secondary decats. Anyone who wants to make their FL car sound like a race car should fit one of these. The Scorpion DP is a more subtle sound and I think is more like my PFL car with the secondary decats. My personal preference between the two is the Scorpion DP.
Performance:
I took the car to MRC today to get some dyno runs to check out power and torque comparisons with the Milltek DP. The results were very interesting as they confirmed what I could feel on the road. The in-gear performance with the Scorpion DP seemed a little 'laggy' below 3k rpm, not massively so, but just slightly different to the Milltek. Conversely, at the top end pull with the Scorpion DP, it felt that the power delivery above 4k rpm was really strong right up to 7k rpm. This was reflected in today's dyno results.
We ended up with just under 548ps and 747nm (using NF Octane booster). The Scorpion DP appears to produce a bit more top end power (around 8ps) than the Milltek, but the Milltek counters that with slightly better torque below 4k rpm. However, the Scorpion DP torque curve is less peaky (reasonably flat from 3k up to 5k rpm).
My FL Milltek decat DP will be up for sale, looking for £400 - only done around 350 miles. PM me if anyone is interested.
