Wasn't tempted to be fair - the 1/10000 chance to win a £120 Karcher didn't move the dial either.

 

Did phone them when I ordered the car out of interest - came back with a quote of about £2.5k. Placed with Esure for £600 - go figure.

I suspect that was either a screen-only rate and not put through our special club scheme or it's because you didn't meet the insurers' age & experience requirements (they're the normal reasons for such a high quote). A nice testimonial that reflects the kind of service Chris Knott aims to offer:

 

"Another happy (new) customer here! I wasn't happy with my Admiral renewal (even after haggling it down) and after quick Money Supermarket comparison I could see that there were between 10-15 companies all coming back with prices (up to £110) less than Admiral.

 

Cheap quotes are one thing but level of service and protection is also important. I know that a £285 quote isn't going to include like for like mod cover and legal expenses but it does show that there was room for a better price with someone somewhere so I found a bit of time and decided to speak to the specialists.

 

My first session of form-filling and a (chase) call to another of STOC's recommended Insurers was a fruitless exercise. Before even running a quote they told me that if I'd been quoted £400 to insure a MK7 ST by someone else, that I should snap their arm off as they'd be unable to come close to that considering my age and the required mileage (soon to be 30 and 12k) and that "The MK7 ST is the most stolen car they'd ever insured!", sure the guy was polite and made pleasant conversation even telling me he has a MK7 himself (wonder who he’s insured with?!), but with that attitude to business they shan’t be hearing from me again!

 

Undeterred and following the other glowing reviews on here and elsewhere, I filled in my details with Chris Knott. Later I got a call back from Ian and the difference was night and day. He was incredibly helpful as we went through all the details, he even seemed surprised that I'd been asked to declare the optional extras and even the trivial bits like a gearknob with Admiral but said for peace of mind he'd list them on their system despite it having no weighting on the quote.

 

Eventually he came back with a quote of £355, I was more than happy with that (just for the fact it includes like for like cover alone). He even made a note to allow me to add the private plate that my wife wants to buy me for my birthday (a few days after my renewal) without any admin fees. Totally satisfied not only do I feel confident that my car is properly covered (always a grey area with mainstream insurers and modded cars) but I've saved money (even compared to last year's premium) and will definitely be giving them a call when the wife's renewal is due in November!"
