Well after months and months of arguments trying to convince Audi that the issues I had were coming from the gearbox, they finally came to a decision to part fund a new one with myself. I got the car back yesterday and all I can say is wow, the car feels a hell of a lot better for it in more ways than I thought it would. I also opted for a new flywheel to be fitted having spoken with JayRS3 after reading some threads.

Some of you may remember I started a thread asking whether or not an 8V box would fit on an 8P, as I was trying to keep my options open should discussions with Audi fail. But I would like to know how I can find the model number of the replacement gearbox.

The reason I ask is having had my RS3 almost 2 years now, I know how it drives in all situations and now that the box has been changed it feels entirely different. Gear changes seem to be much quicker, they seem a hell of a lot smoother and the gears it chooses to drive with are quite different with regards to pedal position. Most notably there is no holding onto second gear anymore. There is no clunk as you slow down to a stop as the car goes into first gear and there is a distinct lack of a dsg 'fart' or 'pop' when upshifting which was almost always present before.

When I had a Golf R as a courtesy car a few month prior, the one thing I thought much better than my RS3 was that its gearbox and its mapping, it reacted much like this new box. Having looked into the engine bay, there is now no breather pipe for the gearbox like there was before, the oil cooler seems to be bigger or in a different orientation and I am pretty sure the oil filter is in a different location? unfortunately I don't have any photos of it all in place beforehand hence I would like to know how I can find out its part number.

Thanks :)

OK so I found a sticker on the oil cooler that has its part number on - 0BH300012D 00N with a manufacturing date of 17.06.18

Etka quotes 0BH300011D, I guess it is a revision of some sort but its definitely not the 8V version.

Maybe some guru knows the difference, but I am just over the moon its fixed and working a charm!

Did you ever do a gearbox reset via VCDS on your original gearbox as this effectively resets all the stored driving style info. So maybe when it learns your driving style again over a period of time it will start to change. Maybe a bit of the placebo affect too as it’s natural to think things are better when parts are changed especially something as vital as the gearbox. You can’t beat new at the end of the day. The flywheel also causes all weird and wonderful noises so again being new that would have quietened that up.

Either way... pleased your happy and back on the road mate

Etka lists all these

Numbers are for specific manufacture dates.

Jay - Yeah it had an adaption carried out once by Audi when it had the transfer box changed last September, and then I did it again in January via VCDS. Your right though I think the noises we discussed must have been from the flywheel so I am so glad I took your advice to just go ahead and do it. Now I can enjoy the car the way its meant to be enjoyed :)

T-800 - Am I right in thinking that the last gearbox shown on your 8P screenshot (the one I now have fitted) replaces all previous box revisions as the date covers the entire date span 01/11 - 12/12? At least this box hasn't been sat on a shelf for a long time prior to fitting.

Now I can finally look forward to a trip to MRC in the future without the worry of it going **** up haha

I was pretty amazed at how quite my car was after a new flywheel was fitted. Sounded like a diesel Sierra when it was sat idling before I had it changed 😂

The last one will be the very latest supersession of the gearbox............they may change something in the gearbox or switch supplier hence the part number change.
