If the display flashes then it`s generally the mechatronic unit.

The Gearbox can be reset on the 8P with VCDS but if display is flashing it’s a new Mech unit I bet.

Lucky there is a mechatronic for sale for £899 just now.
Gearbox Nottingham say they send a refurbed unit starting at £850. I’m sure I phoned them last time and the bloke said he needed to car to diagnose the fault even though it says they can send one out in exchange for the faulty one.
Ah well the never ending fault saga continues.

Seems it must just be an intermittent fault with the circuit board, when this happened last year it would play up pretty much straight away. I went out for about a 10 mile drive varying speeds and engine loads/gearbox loads and it performed fine.
Has anyone bought anything from Deutcheparts Ltd? They have a brand new one going for £899, just want to check before I buy, I just have the old if it’s too good to be true it usually is in my head. That’s the best part of £650 on retail price.

If it was just one of the solenoids I would have a go fixing it myself. Thing is when the code throws up it doesn’t mention any faults with a valve. Just been out and logged the mechatronic unit temp and oil temp to see if it was maybe a temperature related limp mode.

The guy at Nottingham (Slaters I think) seemed very knowledgable to me
He said (on our TT one) he could supply an exchange Mech unit at a reasonable price or a brand new one at £1100 at that time (2015)
Don’t forget the Mech unit sits in the oil to cool it down.
Over time as the oil degraded the temps will rise leading to increased temps in the Mech unit.....
I think Audi gear oil changes aren’t frequent enough considering what the oil actually does.
