Two very different beasts:
RS6
Obviously a huge 2 ton motor, with 10 cylinder bi-turbo iron up front. Added a supersprint catback for a deeper rumble. It is so well insulated that you don’t really hear any noticeable noise until well into 5k revs or have it in sport mode for lovely downshifts
Looks wise it seriously is understated, one of the most understated in the RS range in my opinion.
The RS6 is really a motorway muncher, effortless with no drama. The one thing is that you get to licence losing speeds with little comprehension because it is just so undramatic. You notice the extra power when you start getting over 100mph. Great in a straight line but scary in bends at speed because it really isn’t a tactile responsive driving car. Tech wise - 2010 is now getting dated and this is one of the reasons for a swap out. It all reminds me of the early days of monochrome displays. No postcode satnav lol. It’s very heavy. Very safe. No driver connection though. Your could drive your gran in it.
RS3
Obviously a lot lighter and less power but.....even for an RS it is more engaging as a drivers car. Fun! Granny is safe in comfort mode and you can also be a hooligan when alone. For me I wanted something like the RS4 B7 Saloon and it became obvious we were not going to see a RS4 loon any time soon. Then I saw the RS3
It looks perfect to me. Tech wise I now feel in the 21st century and dynamic mode , oh pops crackles love it!
Launch control is addictive. Corners are addictive. It’s simply a fantastic bit of engineering. The seats are a bit disappointing. SS look good but would have preferred wingbacks. That’s the only gripe I can think of. It’s more economical, I would say acceleration is a little better in the RS3 - although 100% the 6 would annihilate it over 100.

Re a RS4 saloon I know a few people that have bought the S4 saloon with intention of modding to RS4 power and above so perhaps a future option?
Tbf though RS3 is a very hard act to follow!

Welcome to forum and best of luck with your new,RS3. I've had a B7 RS4 and, whilst a little smaller, the 3 is quite similar to own and drive.
