First post on the forum although have been lurking with envy for some time. Located in Scotland and have been going through the painful experience of attempting to convince my dear wife that buying an RS3 will be the greatest thing we could ever experience (after getting married and having a child of course).

Not in the financial position to go for the FL unfortunately but am looking at 15 plate cars in the 30-35k range with dynamic ride. Have identified a good car but it's too far away to have a test drive before buying so trying to find one locally to try first. Have a few questions anyway that I hope you can answer.

1. Dynamic Package: With this pack on the car does comfort setting make the day to day use ride easier?

2. Sports exhaust: While I'll be fine with the snap, crackle n pop exhaust sound, is there a setting that makes this more wife friendly and less likely to drop dead passing old ladies?

3. Resale: Will be planning to keep the car for 5 years minimum, how's the depreciation on them (doing around 6-8000 miles per year.

4. Security: the car will be parked in our garage, is the Ghost immobilizer worth fitting? And will that affect the Audi warranty (planning on extending the warranty on the car by a couple of years.)

5. Insurance: 45 year old male (13 yrs NCB) 41 year old female (15 yrs NCB) class 1 business use. Rough ideas on yearly cost?

Anyway look forward to your responses.

Scott

Comfort keeps the car less noisy + avoid being too heavy on the loud pedal and you'll be fine. At WOT it is insanely loud though.

Welcome fella :)

Only thing I can answer there (as I have yet to order by RS3) is that Ghost is most definitely worth fitting in my opinion :)

Welcome along Scott! Some answers for you:

1) Mag ride certainly does give the option of a smoother ride.

2) Comfort or Auto setting for the exhaust will keep it in quiet mode. Auto will open the gates of Hell when you give it some beans!

3) If you're planning to keep it that long, resale value should not be a worry at all.

4) I do not have this but have only heard good things about it.

5) Can't answer about the insurance as I do not live in the UK...!

If you can do it, go for it. The car still gobsmacks me sometimes with its breadth of abilities, and makes me giggle like a teenager with the sound. Had mine 2.5 years now! That's gone fast...

Welcome along Scott!

1. As above - pretty smooth in comfort on our pothole-ridden Scottish roads. My missus loves the RS3 so much she bought one before I did and I copied her car choice

2. Normal day to day driving on comfort / auto mode keeps the noise sensible - no drone at any speeds. Sounds ballistic when you push the noisy button.

3. and 4. see above

5. Do some quotes on the comparison sites to get a more realistic idea - I'm with Admiral on a multicar deal and pay £370 fully comp. but sometimes I wonder if insurers just push a random number generator.

Shame you hadn't been looking sooner, I sold my 65 plate Sepang blue RS3 to a trader back in December in your price bracket, he came all the way from Manchester to pick it up. Hold out for the right car - they are fantastic bits of kit.

Comfort mode is comfortable. If it has magride then make sure the suspension isn't banging/knocking (it probably is) because it's a ******* nuisance. In fact it does have mag ride as it has the sports exhaust (part of the dynamic pack).

You can also tailor the car to your own settings, you can have steering and suspension in sport and exhaust in comfort for example which will keep the car from popping and banging.

Ghost immobiliser, no brainer, get it done - especially if it has keyless entry and start.

I'm 23 and just got my insurance renewal £600. 4 years ncb. 6 years experience. Insurance is cheaper in Scotland however.

I'd offer to go look at the car for you but I am the other side of the country (near Edinburgh). There are a few guys on here from Glasgow which may be able to have a look for you.

Thanks guys for the welcome and all the speedy replies. Will continue to try and get the full go ahead from the good lady and let you know if it's a positive response.

@Gav I saw your sepang and would have bought it had it still been available. Is your FL a lot better?

@dsme thanks for the kind offer but the car is in the south of England.

Hi Scott,

The Sepang 8V was a super car but lacked a couple of options that I really wanted - the new FL is superb, but both great cars to be honest. You won't be disappointed  :)

Hi Gav, and sorry to hijack the thread: Would I be correct in thinking that you moved from an RS6 to the 8v and then to the FL? If so, are you still happy with that choice?
The reason I ask is that I'm coming from a b8 rs4 and wondering if the RS3 won't feel just a little too small?
Cheers-Mark.

I've come from an S5 Mark and thecRS 3 feels just right. It is compact for sure in comparison but , for me, doesn't feel small. And I'm 185 cm.

Hi Scott,

I have a Sepang 8V with a good spec, which I was lucky enough to order from new. The dynamic suspension has been excellent and well worth the money. The sports exhaust is a must have in my opinion on the PFL. You can turn it down, but I rarely do.

I will have had mine 3 years in July and it has been trouble free (13k miles). The looks, engine, sound and exclusivity are what makes the RS3 worth the price tag.

I am 45 and my insurance is around £450, as a guide.

Good Luck

Well guys I had lined up a look at a PFL today in Glasgow with the hope of getting the wife a drive in it then off to pursue my dream car down south with her approval. Got a text from the guy who was selling the one up here earlier to say the car sold late last night. Beginning to think the RS3 gods ain't in alignment for me at this time. Anyway I'll keep you posted and thanks for the help (I guess this is where fine Scottish Ales come in to soften the blow :) )

The plot thickened on this one guys. The car i was looking at was a sepang blue 15 plate with 8500 miles on it at Crawley Audi black pack and alloys with dynamic etc. Thought it had sold then it appeared again on their site this week.
Arranged a test drive in a 16 plate at Perth Audi yesterday and thankfully the wife was not disagreeable and my boy laughed and said "Dadee you have to buy an RS3". The Perth one wasn't specced as I wanted but when I floored it in dynamic mode the salesman laughed as I couldnt stop smiling.
Anyway the car was still on the website at Crawley last night. I planned to call up and put a deposit on it today only to find the car had sold. I have no words......

Dammit! That's a shame - keep looking, the right car will be along shortly and you'll enjoy it even more when you get it!
