My local Specialist garage, Redline Specialist cars of Harrogate are an authorised dealer & having spoke to them yesterday they seem a good alternative  to a re-map

I know someone who sent his back.

It never made claimed power on the rollers and the RS ECU seemed to be ‘fighting’ the box.

I tried a box on my Mk7 Golf R, a big name brand as well. Needless to say I’ll never use one again. Got the car scanned before it went in for a service and it had 3 or 4 fault codes logged, torque limit exceeded, fuel rail pressure too high amongst others. So this undetectable line was utter rubbish in my case. On one occasion it caused the car to lose power on the way home on some twisty back roads.

Reminds of me of one of those DTUK Diesel Tuning boxes. Having read so many reviews on these things I think it's well advised to stay away from the Plug & Play type tuning systems.

Although I had a JB4 on the Golf R and that was great couldn’t fault it.

Plugs into a lot more though and it can be logged to see what’s going on.

There’s one coming out for the FL RS3 soon I’m told.

I had a tuning box from one of the mentioned well known brands and although it made more power it kept making the engine light come on. When I spoke to one of the programmers I asked what the boost was and he said roughly 0.4 bar above factory setting. When I asked what th factory boost was he had no idea. His reasoning was the engine I was running was in several variants which had slightly different power outputs. My view was how do they know it is safe if they don’t know such simple information. I then asked if it tricks the ecu to think the sensor outputs are different then how can the safety features built into the ecu work? He said all safety features are not affected by the box, but when asked he had not idea what safety features were built into my ecu.
I can’t see the major tuners spending months doing R&D on their own cars if it’s as easy as making a few tweaks to boost, fuelling and timing. Each to there own but after my personal experience it’s a main tuner map with rolling road fine tune or nothing. These cars are way more complex nowadays than even 5 years ago and I just wouldn’t feel safe.

Racechip are a decent business. Ive had quite a few throttle boosters off them over the years. I doubt it will make your engine blow up but it would be last choice thats for sure.

You cant beat a proper mapping session like what they do at MRC. Next choice would be a generic file thats been developed properly like Revo or APR.

When you have the above options for the sake of a couple of hundred quid why waste your money on something like this.

I wish I had bought the JB4 box, seen a lot of good chat about them. The M135 guys swore by them before there were any software options for them. My opinion on boxes would probably been a lot more positive if I had opted for one.
