Just seeing what ppl think of charge coolers on here?

Intercoolers are great when moving to get air flow and charge coolers are not as efficient at speed but very good stationary and at lower speeds.

I did use a charge cooler on an Cossie which worked well and wondered how good they would be used with an uprated intercooler?

These looked good quality:

They seem to be the way to go on the big power GTR’s and UR TT Lambos. I’m guessing there is a reason nobody has used them on RS3’s yet. Maybe no one has reached a level where they would be necessary yet and or beneficial compared to an air to air intercooler. Be interesting to find out!

Maybe it could be a space issue on an RS3 also? I guess water or water/meth is easier to fit in, especially as they is no performance reason the pipes can’t be longer.

I run a Pace pumped feed charge cooler on a 16v MK2 Golf fitted with a Eaton M62 charger,it was placed between the charger & the inlet manifold & worked very well for my use. :D

They take up more space with the pump, pipe work, water tank & 2 water radiators.

I’m sure I’ve seen a 800/900+ bhp TTRS or RS3 running a custom charge cooler but I can’t for the life of me remember where.

They’re ideal if you’re drag racing.

I totally agree Bazf and many a driver gets a worse time due to being in a long queue like at Santa Pod often.

That’s some comprehensive air cooling going on, the IAT would be about -10 degrees C 😂

BenTTU - I guess if you are drag racing it could make all the difference and I bet a lot of those drivers would have meth as well. I spoke to a guy at Santa Pod who had over 4000hp  from a V8 but said he can only have it running for 30 minutes max or it would overheat (with all the coolers).

I guess there is a line where the benefit of cooling would be lost if the boost is lowered by massive coolers (charge or intercooled). I guess if you have a supercharger snail the size of a dustbin lid dropping 10psi is nothing.

Renga -- why don't you get one and see how you go? :D

I still think Nitrous is the way to go, even on a built engine. There are no mapping issues, if using a decent controller you cannot lean out and there is less stress on the engine than big boost due to power lower down and improved cooling.

Stuw13  lol it's clear why drag racers use it. But not on a Audi 5pot... That's why I asked the question.
