Hi all, I'm new on here and I have a 2015 MK7 Golf R but have a craving for a 2015 RS3 in Nardo Grey.

I know the RS3 will sound much better but will it be much quicker acceleration then the Golf R? The other option is to remap the R.

What are the RS3's like to live with? Do they have any major common faults as I can't imagine they are cheap to repair.

Any advice welcome please.

Welcome, I have a 8p and had it 2 yrs and it's not skipped a beat, fuel on the over hand can get expensive :-)

Hi welcome mate. Been a proud owner of a 2015 for 4 months now so can only tell you what I have experienced. First of all get one with the dynamic pack a complete must have your thank me later for that, secondly the oem front brake pads are sh.. and there is a 50/50 chance the car could develop low speed brake squeal (loads about it on here), might be lucky and have a squeal free one. The one niggle I had was a fuel pressure switch but thankfully so far hasn’t developed in to a proper fault due to me clearing it with a diagnostic tool. Other than that really can’t fault it. There are more knowledgeable folk I’ve spoken to on this forum then the whole of the Audi so called techs employed in the U.K. so you will be in great company if anything should happen. Enjoy and good luck what ever your decision mate👍

Welcome fella, I have both an 8p and a MK7 R (company car) the 8p power in comparison to the R is very obvious you can’t miss the 5pot. But interestingly the R is manual and drinks more fuel than the 8p which is strange! But then I do drive the R hard sometimes which is probably why. An 8v on the other hand is a different story as a lot that was wrong with the 8p has been resolved well almost.

Both cars are great, however the RS3 is a lot of freaking fun.

Good luck.

I had a 2015 RS3 which after 18 months I chopped in for a FL Golf R, loved the R but still missed the 5 cylinder engine, even though the drive of the Golf was sublime.....

Had the Golf R only 5 months, give or take, then went and bought a FL RS3.

The FL is more Golf R like in its handling, thanks to various tweaks, but most will agree, the noise the RS produces is fantastic and really makes the car what it is.

A remap would elevate the R and be asking some questions of a 2015 RS3....... but then again you can do exactly the same with the RS 3 and a stage 1....

Obviously if you mod then you need to accept the possibility of something going pop and a new engine is 18.5k at least.....

Yep they do go pop.

Someone on this very forum had a new engine in at 18.5k from Audi.

I had a 8 Month old 8P go on me 2500 miles and it broke rings in no1 cylinder (Not driven hard either) Audi Leicester replaced the engine under warranty never heard how much the retail price was but put me off doing mods on a new vehicle (for a bit) New owner had to have a brand new gearbox 6 Months later Leicester Audi hadn't put it together correctly  :o

My present 8P had big turbo build by Jay (R7jay) think he's bill for the Engine Build from Race Developments was just over £10K so when Audi refuse your claim go big power  :D  :D  :D

Wo wo wo. All this talk of blown engines is way our of proportion in relation to the number of cases (1?). Remember the S3 and R had major Turbo flaws, especially the early ones and the turbo's have been revised countless times. They were popping all over the place.

I came from an 8V 2015  S3. It was boring and incredibly mundane to drive. The RS3 is altogether different and lovely to drive.

Mine is a 2015 with 34k on it and like most people, it has not had any issues apart from the squeeky brakes which completely went away when I changed the pads.

They are lovely to drive, the feeling of the engine roar as you press the pedal, the road presence. It's an awesome car.

I had an 8P RS3 that I PXed for a Mk7 Golf R. The Golf was very capable but never very exciting; I found the engine particularly characterless. If they were a bit cheaper (and didn't get nicked so often) I'd have got an 8V RS3 when I changed car this time. Despite all of the criticisms of the 8P, I liked mine a lot, especially the combination of the 5-pot and the S-Tronic

Ha ha, the Nardo one we were looking at has sold ☹️ But personally I like the idea of a blue one. The Golf R is blue and it shines up really well.

A blue one you say?!!!.. I have a stunning Sepang Blue one available in the marketplace - more photos are in the 8V thread: http://www.audirs3oc...in-marketplace/

I'm willing to negotiate on the price (seeing as I can't alter my ad in the marketplace), feel free to drop me a p.m.  :)

All what talk ???

Op asked for opinions and he got opinions......

Every engine is at risk of going pop, i simply said if a remap causes it then you’d be looking at 18.5k at least......

Part of the OP’s question is that he expects them to be ‘expensive’ to fix....... and if one isn’t a money bags then yes they will be expensive to ‘fix’.

Just moved from a 2015 G7R with APR stage 1, VWR induction goodies, and VWR springs to a totally stock 2016 RS3. The G7R was great to drive and a really competent car, but a bit soulless. I have only had the RS3 a few days but am totally addicted to the sound of it, especially with the sports exhaust. (Before the G7R I had a B7 RS4 with a non-valved Milltek exhaust!) The RS3 is my first DSG motor so that is an interesting change that is taking some getting used to. The RS3 is also a step up in interior quality and I love how it looks. I am really enjoying it and will update after I have put a few more miles on it.
