I bought my car with the APR stage 2 tune, upgraded front mount and full milltek exhaust with race cats.

I was just wondering on opinions on whether it is worth having the car tuned by MRC or would it be a case of negligible gains? Although I do like the sound (literally) of the map they do that makes the exhaust crackle in sport mode.

Thoughts, opinions and any real life experiences welcome!

Have a chat with MRC , they have some Dyno plots of an APR Stage 2 car with a before and after with their stage 2. I have them, but not sure it would be fair of me to post them publicly as they are not of my car. Dyno's aren't always true, and you can get them to say pretty much what you want, but a genuine before and after is very compelling and will go someway to show you how the car 'might' feel.

I recently went for APR Stage 2+ on mine, but I moved to MRC shortly after. I am seeing how I feel about it but I already know I am very impressed.(More on that later).

I went from APR stage1 to MRC stage2+, the MRC map will be specific to your car unlike the generic APR map but I'm guessing power will be pretty much the same give or take.

Most if not all stage 1 stage 2 files are generic, only so much AFR can be adjusted and ecu can correct quite easily, decat and cooler really doesn't warrant a custom tune. So real world road use you be hard pushed to really notice gains.

Ben

So what happens if the mods your have done go outside the generic files parameters 🤔 More boost, change of down pipe, cooler inlet temperature due to updated IC,uprated HPFP,more air flow etc etc ?

Hi Dell

If you start going with hpfp, injectors & bespoke turbos then it will have to be a custom tune granted.

Stage 1 to stage 2 have different terminology from company to company.

Stage 1 will be more boost, more fuel, more air, more timing and so on. The tuner will take it safely to what it can handle. So the tuner will devlope a stage 1 suits all.

Now a stage 2 is same scenario as stage 1.
Most guys go the usual larger cooler and decat. Again a tuner will devlope to stage 2 suits all.

You will be very hard pushed to find a tuner that will keep writing custom files just because of a larger cooler or decat. They will find the happy medium like a stage 1 tune.

Smokes and mirrors.

Regards Ben
