HI I am a long term 'lurker'. My  Nardo Grey RS3 was stolen Sunday evening in Bristol area by professional mob getting into house whilst we were in and grabbed keys, took wife's posh handbag but had decency to place it in hedge upright out of rain and mud after taking purse out..Could have taken a few other items including my wife's car but Fiat 500 1.2 obviously not quite so desirable...

Based on where we live they clearly knew the car was here and have detailed knowledge of RS3s as got it away without us hearing/seeing, which considering I had sports exhaust and lights set on auto etc is quite remarkable as it was parked on private drive not 6 feet from lounge and bedroom..and yes it was locked/alarmed etc!!

Police advised this morning car found dumped in field after professionally stripped and is basically a shell, CSI now on it...not expecting anything.

I don't think I have ever been so crazy mad angry....

Neighbour saw middle age chap with glasses walking up our no through lane with phone possible taking pics a few days before and thought it was a bit strange as apart from one or two hikers we do not get people like that..

Watch out....everyone, hate this to happen to someone else, sadly it probably will.

How on earth did they start it etc without you hearing? Push it down the street perhaps and start up there?

Another good reason to have Ghost installed.

Sorry to hear that, it makes my blood boil reading it!!

Thieves tend to scout & mark properties, typically with expensive vehicles outside or Asian jewellery inside and come back later in the night to commit a burglary. I've found that vehicles, most prolifically BMW's with Advanced and Electronic Keys with a 'Keyless Entry' option, are always being stolen as it's becoming increasingly easy to clone keys.

Trouble is TX is that the thief wont know you have Ghost installed and are still likely to try breaking into your house looking for the keys.

I think Ghost is a great bit of kit but I still think its essential to have some good protection for your property. Camera's in my opinion are not a lot of good, they do not deter thieves from breaking in (my sisters house earlier this year being a case in point) and the quality of imagery for most of them makes it hard to identify the intruders - plus they usually seem to have their hoodies up anyway! Then there's the DPA to consider as you cannot record images beyond the perimeter of your property without obtaining all sorts of written permission etc etc.

After a recent attempt to steal my car (through the letter box trying to gain entry but they got disturbed) I have fitted alarm sensors to windows and doors (which have flashing red LED's which are visible at night) and added good old fashioned mechanical bolts to the top and bottom of doors. All locks have been replaced with high secure Yale jobbies and any alloy door handles/fittings replaced with hardened steel ones.

Now I accept all this wont stop someone getting in (they can still break a window or lever out a UVPC panel) but if anyone is going to attempt to get in while I am in the house, they are going to have to make a lot of noise doing it.

  • LocationToo close to Roy.

Im with Fivepotfan make it harder for them to get & if you have a Alarm have it set on the night setting so everyone knows there trying or they are in the house.
