I want to let you know my experience with REVO tuning.
In January of this year I upload REVO stage 1. On my own car I had already mounted Forge intercooler and Miltek secondary decat. I was very pleased. The maximum power is increased by 10 hp, the maximum torque increased by 14 kgm.

In March, relying on imminent stage 2, I put Miltech sport cat.
Official Stage 2 was not yet available, I upload stage 1+. Huge disappointment, Stage 1 + is a very old file and is less performing than Stage 1.
I can upload a REVO stage 2 beta for 100 octane gasoline. The maximum power is identical to stage 1, after 5,000 rpm the turbine has given the maximum and the gains of power are only gained in advance.
Stage 2 increases even more between the 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. The problem that as soon as the 65 kgm torque passes, the DSG gearbox limiter comes into action.

I found it useless to hold a stage 2 for me ineffective.
I replenish stage 1 by trying to keep the miltek sporting cat. Car goes very well, better than with stage 1+. Sadly, after 50 - 100 km, a warning lights up.
I tried to request REVO an updated stage 1+ but REVO rejected my request.
At this point I was forced to replenish the original catalyst.
I was somewhat disappointed with the REVO business policy.

Gearbox map needed then?

Revo does not have the DSG remapping available. His German dealer TK Enginering has actually remapped DSG on the RS3 he prepared with Stage 2 but it's a tuning from them developed.
My opinion does not make sense to have so many motor torque from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm and then have only 48 kgm at 6,000 rpm. It seems useless to give the transmission so much.

As soon as the control unit registers a torque higher than 65 kgm it cuts power. It is well seen that the dino graph has a smooth look. It is used to protect DSG.

Sometimes you also feel it by driving. You have a net power cut like when you travel the speed limiter.

I think most DSG boxes will have torque limits. It is usually bypassed by the ECU providing a lower torque reading to the TCU or by mapping the box.

This can cause slip in the 6 speed boxes on the Mk6 Golf for example because the TCU doesn't apply enough clamping pressure.

I've heard conflicting reports about REVO Stage 2. But essentially the turbo is about done and maxed out after around 50-60 extra ponies over real stock.

I'm considering taking a look at etuners Stage 2. Or just sod it and stick on a LO500 with an etuners customer Stage 3 ECU map and Stage 2 TCU map...

RS3 8V FL - bone stock...for now.

RS3 8V - eTuners Stage 3 480hp.

Afaik people can get 450hp and just shy of 500ft2 with the standard turbo and are upgrading the turbo if they want more than that.

This is the reason why I prefer to have a 'custom' tune so that all the parts fitted to my car have been included in the custom map are working as intended when I drive away. The risk of things not performing correctly significantly increase if you have added extra parts (exhaust downpipe, filters, different spark plugs etc etc) and use the 'plug n play and drive away' approach.

If the standard DSG gearbox sees values beyond the factory torque limits, the ECU will pull back to the power to protect the drivetrain. A DSG map will re-progamme the torque limit values, increase clamping pressure for the clutch packs, increase rev limit (up to 7200rpm) and change the rev setting for launching. However, while a DSG map allows you to exploit the power upgrade you have added to your car, it does not add any extra protection to the gearbox or drivetrain components so some mechanical sympathy should be deployed when using launch control with a big torque increase. The DQ500 gearbox is a robust unit and responds well to 'software' upgrades.

i put michelin pilot sport 4s on mine which are great but any temps under 14c and mine wont grip either! I wonder if its possible to back the torque off in the 1st 2 gears?
