Obviously the car is designed to do it. But it must place a lot of stress on the vehicle. How many times or how frequently is it recommended without doing to much damage etc?

There is no limit, There is a counter which you can view if you have vcds. It's there so Audi can view how many launches have been done incase you fry your gearbox with 500 launches in 2 months

I too have seen mention of other Audi models which just stopped launching at 200 instances some with screenshots of a limit had been reached error.

I have looked with VCDS and never found A counter on the MK1, if it's there, the measuring block is not clearly identified.

To date , I have resisted the urge to. launch mine, and knowing how the car was cared for in the 3k miles prior to my ownership, I doubt it ever has.

I've no intention of using Launch control on the 8V whatsoever........

In my opinion it places too much stress on drivetrain components......

The RS3 8P/8V is plenty fast enough from a rolling start...........

I couldn't agree more Sean.

The furthest I have had it is to the revs holding stage , just to hear the pops and bangs, without actually launching.

Launch limit has come up a few times, it's been discussed here...

It is curious that there is concern using LC, particularly with the Mk 1 which had failures to drive shaft & or drive shaft fixing bolts (posted in MK 1 section). Agree that LC will stress the drive system but I would have thought this should be more an issue with clutch assembly than other bits. In designing & building in LC to the car have Audi under designed the drive system?

I was at an Alpha Romeo 4C (Spyder & Coupe) driving experience at Millbrook last weekend & in addition to driving both cars on alpine and oval circuit some fun was had on the mile straight doing launch control starts to see who could clock up fastest 0-60 time - there was absolutely no concern from Alpha about causing any damage to the cars with repeated LC. Now I thought the Germans were better engineers than the Italians - Vor sprung durch Italiano!!!

If the car has LC on it then why is everyone/most people scared to use it ???

It has warranty to cover all eventualities  so I cant see any problem,

Are you going to keep the car for longer than 3 years then get the extended warranty if your that worried .

How can they refuse to fix it when its on the car and designed to use !?

Are you not going to use the sat nav in case a pixel stops working or the windows incase the button breaks ?

It annoys the hell out of me when its on the car but people are scared to use it .

If / when I get mine Ill be using it thats what its on the bloody car for  !

Better not write any more incase my keyboard stops working

So how was the little Alfa to drive Mr Tippytoes?? I fancy a drive of one to see! Not even seen one on the road here...

They (spyder & coupe) were very nice, responsive. Power delivery smoother & more consistent than 8v but acceleration slightly slower. Suspension is excellant but then that's compairing it to 8v. Interesting driving options - dynamic, neutral, all weather and race. Cabin is slighlty claustrophobic and a bit cluttered for an Alpha. Nice exhaust note, similar to 8v standard without pops & crackle. Alpha have an interesting engineering solution with the turbo eliminating drag with early power delivery, you are not aware of driving a turbo car. Great turn in and nice gentle oversteer on way out (depending on drive mode) - if you are used to RS3 type power then easy car to drive.

Couldn't adjust seat & steering wheel to be able to see top of rev counter whilst driving probably need to be 5'10" or smaller to suit cabin (I'm 6'). Car is light, maybe too light as front end did not feel 'planted' to me but that may be coming straight out of 8v though did get some steering twiching under heavy breaking. Steering lock to lock was too much, for sport/track car should be less than 180 turn particularly for paddle shifting. Boot is small & for overnight bag only, won't take golf clubs or my camera equipment. For all the good things to be said about Aplha's, and there's a lot, they continue with designing the front end without inclusive licence plate position!

For track use brakes may need an upgrade which for a 60-70k plus car (not including all options) is not good enough considering there is little else to use the car for as no good for shopping or touring. I'm not sure what sector of the market the car is aimed at? Though the car would be fun for my Sunday morning drives and occasional summer evening drives I won't be buying one as too expensive for this limited use - but if I was to include track days then?????????????????

Guys is there anyway to check how many launches a car has done.? If yes can I use VCDS or can this be shown from DIS? Or is this only something a dealer can confirm.?
