So as a previous S3 owner and getting the car wet sanded I thought I owed it to the new RS for a bit of TLC so a detail with Gtechniq & Crystal serum certainly does the trick. Wanted it wet sanded again but the effect is know where near as good on black.

After 6 days she came out looking like this...

Can't PM yet Roy, newbie rules. That's the one. I'm a good customer of theirs, as mentioned before I wet sanded my old S3 and spent 10 days straight with them. Just over £1k. Wet sanding over £2k (think of it long term though as its permanent- the wet sanding that is)

KDS are VERY good when it comes to wet sanding. They did a black Nissan Navara and the results were spectacular. You pay top wach for the service but his results are fantastic!

I did 3 days training (on my car) and the other days I was on my own until the last 3 days with the coatings and last stage. Long days when I was doing night shifts as soon as I was done there. Highly recommend them. Nice and local too

Just to give you an idea of the wet sanding process for anyone who would like to go down that road

But the afterwards... So worth it! You become so paranoid about anyone touching your car let alone getting in it as the paintwork is flawless

I wanted mine wet sanding Jay but due to lower paint in places we decided against it. So nice to see Audi paint without peal :)

That is strange because it actually takes off less paint wet sanding than it does when using a machine polisher regardless of DA or rotary

Yes and no Jay, all surface dependant and defect damage. Wet sanding will take far more pint away than a DA or rotary will that's a fact, it has to in order to flatten the panel correctly as it's no use smithing the peel, it will still be visible. I've used CarPro denim pads to remove some of my peeling issues but as always the case with VAG paint the undulations and differences from panel to panel always surprise me to say the least. The bonnet took me and Matt at Obsidion around 4 hours just to finish due to some very dubious clear coat issues. All original as measured the same thickness on roof as well as both side skirts. Then the correction of the sanding process to take into account and I just didn't fancy the risk of losing 10/20 microns with already low clear in those places so it's something that I'm going to have to live with 😔.

I see your point and to some extent agree however wet sanding alone does take less paint off as your only cutting the high spots away, your not actually touching the low points, which machine polishing will. Agreeably yes you have to machine polish to correct and refine after the sanding process. We tested an area on my car with a laser for accuracy and after every stage of grit paper we measured the paint depth, we also measured again after correcting. It doesn't remove no where near as much as people think. People have this idea that wet sand isn't safe but that's purely down wrong providing it's done correctly and not rushed. Where as give a machine polisher to someone and the paintwork could require respraying. A lot of people wet sand incorrectly especially as they sand each stage by hand (so in theory your not actually shaving off the high spots/peel your merely just following the concours of the panels, so people tend to correct longer as the sanding stage failed - which is why the paint soon goes). You need to start with a solid block with 1500 to slice the high levels, then a softer block with 2000 again still shaving off although not as harsh, then the hand can be used for 2500 & 3000 grit to refine the earlier harsher grits to smooth the peel. Maximum after correction and refinement 10 microns MAX should have been used, most instances 6-8 total but again very user dependant.

Have a look at the beginning of this thread on another wet sanding experiment, see what you think about the paint levels with sanding/correcting.

[not to teach you to suck eggs but merely an experiment that I've witnessed and have learnt myself on my own car]

Have you seen any of Onsidions work Jay? I really do think KDS are very good but working with and along side Matt for a while in my opinion and after seeing a few cars up close sanded by others he is the best in the country! I compleatyl agree with you mate, just the process of wet sanding and then a good two stage correction and if be on the limit of usable paint if any correction work was required down the line. As has happened due to Audi and their complete balls up washing it 😡.

Yes I remember seeing the vehicle on auto trader and then I saw a detailing thread on the RS3 as obviously the prince Harry thing caught on. It was f*cked the paintwork to say the least and it did look tidy afterwords.
I think everyone has there favourites don't they as I too say KDS are best in country haha. I guess it's our experiences that have led us to this decision. 🏻

As for Audi washing the cars - every time I go in, I make them sign a bit of paper to not wash it otherwise they're paying for a detail.

All superb work.........
But the problem is it can be undone by 1 ignorant dealer and I'm pretty sure scratches and day to day marks would be more 'visable' as such.
I'd be frightened of taking it out the garage
