Paintwork on my RS3 needs some detailing improvement I've let Audi wash it what would you recommend?
Ok so where do we start with this one.. It's a massive question that gets asked a few times so we will start at the place where most damage occurs, washing. As you've said letting Audi wash is the worst thing due to improper wash techniques, they will give it a quick squirt with a hose and slap a £1 sponge with some Autoglym shampoo branded with Audi on it and scrub until those swirls are perfect 😂.
To begin with, get your wash procedure correct! Two bucket method and work from there. If you know what that is fantastic but if not I will happily explain? Pre wash is ESSENTIAL and a wash should never begin without it.
In Terms of detailing the paint you'd have two options,
1. Pay to have the paint work done for you, fully corrected with a two stage polish. I'm not talking grandads Polish and wax on a Saturday afternoon. A duel action polisher with the correct compound and finishing polish to flat the damaged clear coat and remove the swirls and wash maring.
2. Get onto Clean your Car and get some de tar, de iron and clay bar bought. Use in the order I've listed to fully decontaminate the car. Buy a good glaze like Prima Ameigo or Red Moose and fill the swirls with that and put a wax over the top. With a wax you get what you pay for. I don't care what anyone says a top quality wax is worth its weight in gold. I've used enough of them out there to know lol. This way, the results are by no means perfect but they will last between two months to three. Depending on number of washes/weather.
Number one is the best option and I have recently converted to "the dark side" and gone into coatings. A good quality coating will help protect against someone who has a basic knowledge of carful washing. It will also be worth the extra (a very small amount) charge to protect and preserve your freshly detailed pint. It's by no means impervious but it's better than nothing. There are a few other ways of doing bits but tbh, glazing is a good starting point. You'll soon find yourself hooked 😉. Detailing World is the place to be. Have a look on there and see what takes your fancy. If I can help anymore I gladly will!
