I've been reading around on a few of the threads on the forum this morning about the (disturbingly common) failure of prop shafts and the associated bold when using the launch control feature of the car.

Other than replacing the bolts for some uprated ones or buying some custom prop shafts there doesn't seem to be any sort of fix that's recognised by Audi and threads where people have been asking them have just died off.

Does anyone know if anything ever did get sorted? Or is this just a problem that Audi want nothing to do with and it's all a bit late now that the new model RS3 is coming out?

Thansk for any info.

Audi will do precisely nothing about this, they ain't bothered same as the brake fiasco.....
Saying that with only a handful of cars to which this has happened (most but not all re-mapped) they just refer owners to the warranty terms.

As for launch control.... Yep it's there but the RS 3 is plenty fast enough from a rolling start anyway.

I'm my view launching it all the time can't be good for certain drivetrain components.

But it's just my personal opinion and I have mechanical sympathy

Not really into Launch control myself prefer as you say rolling starts and acceleration.....probably being used to two wheel drive has a lot to do with it and blowing the clutch to pieces on my S4 that was a month old.......yes it was mapped yes it had an insanely loud exhaust and it was lowered....and Audi replaced it under warranty. It was 2002-3 though and not now

If you haven't tried LC you should at least once, before you mod the car. I did and am still laughing at how insane it was.
Otherwise I agree with the considered opinions above in that real life driving doesn't usually include mad standing starts, and if you want something to last then treat it accordingly.

(However if your car is not modded and under warranty - LC is a specified feature to be used or abused and if using it breaks anything it shouldn't be your problem!)

I have used lc both modded and unmodded and it's awesome. That being said I have only used it a handful of times. I still have 2 years warranty left but the main reason I don't use it is that you look like a real idiot burning it off the lights. That being said on a quiet road why not! Truth is a rolling acceleration is plenty enough and you will no doubt run out of nerve/ road. I live in London and there is virtually nowhere to even floor it, let a lone use lc, even of the roads were somehow quiet there will undoubtedly be a speed bump ton negotiate after very brief acceleration... Can't wait to take her out of the city for a proper drive !!

Yeah I've no intention of using it on a reglar basis at all, but it would be nice to use the cars 'party trick' once in a while without the fear of it going bang!

But my car is still totally standard and I have an extended warranty so I guess I do have a little bit of a safety net there. ^_^

Bit late for trying it before the mods I'm afraid.....you've not seen the pics then lolAttached File  image.jpg   66.15K   15 downloads

If the car ever sees Tarmac again I'll have a go I promise but I'll set up a "just giving" account for charitable forum donations in case of a Big Bang !

I sorted the group buy for the uprated bolts and have had them fitted for a while now.  Done multiple launches with them in and it's absolutely insane how quickly it moves.

The problem I've found is that when modded (Engine and gearbox map, with raised LC rev limiter) the gearbox can't change quick enough when in S mode as 1st is over in a flash, it gets upset and hits the limiter.  So if I ever use it, I let it do the launch in S and then pull the paddle before the limiter to shift from 1st to 2nd.

It can be tricky to time it right and you can end up jumping to 3rd but when you get it right, it's incredible!!!

Great tip! Will try that one day as your right about the limiter, should mean even quicker acceleration!!

Here you go buddy.  A 2nd group buy can be organised or you can speak directly to Pat@Redline Speedworx and order some up.

A second group buy could be good. There's a lot of new members, myself included and I know I'd like a set. Anyone else keen?

Hey, cheers Pat that's great. I tell you what, I guess you are at PSI tuning quite regularly so we could meet up there one weekend soon maybe? Be great to see your car and I wouldn't mind speaking to them about a few mods I'd potentially like to make on mine!

Yeh that's sound I can meet you there no problem......I can be free in the week too if you are ?

For the forum there should be no need for a group buy, unless you want one of course, just phone Ade or Pete as PSI and they should sort you out
