Wheel Fell Off!

I pulled over and checked for a flat tyre, everything seemed OK, so put it down to rough road surface!
30 seconds down the line the noise gets 100 times worse and bang!
I get out of the car and there it is, my wheel up in my arch and all the wheel bolts out on the floor.
I run forge 11mm spacers with extended wheel bolts and all torqued to spec.
Last time I had the wheels off was 2 months ago.
3 things I think could have happened:
1) spacer ring snapped and over time wheel bolts come loose
2) wheel hub threads failed and wheel bolts came loose over time
3) someone loosen them (highly doubt it)
I’m ordering a new wheel hub/bearing soon. Anyone know anywhere apart from stealers or TPS I can get hold of one?

What you mean cone angle?
They are definitely the right bolts, picked them up from awesome GTI and had them on for near a year.

The cone angle is the taper on the bolt that has to match the taper on the wheel. Some bolts have a radius instead of taper and some have a loose tapered washer or loose tapered cone. Whichever it`s vital the bolt and wheel match. Take one bolt from the other side and see if it matches one of the OEM bolts if you still have them. The only other thing is over or under torquing .120Nm.

Bobby.
Oem wheels use a radius seat face where aftermarket wheels normally use a taper seat face.
As you have spacer fitted check the longer bolts as 0120 has said match your wheels.
I have 8mm spacers which came with radius seat bolts to match the oem wheels.

crazy lucky! this is so weird.
glad nothing major happened, it suckw because front RS3 bearings are different than the rest of the same platform, making them much more expensive and hard to find.
once i was in a track day, (i torqued the wheels to spec before racing) on my last lap, i was going slow cooling the car and heard some clunking noises when turning the wheel, it was really weird, when i got to the pits i jacked up the car to check everything, and the wheel was so close of coming off, not sure how that happened. it reminds me to your case, just my wheel didnt get completely off, and i was not running spacers

I have been thinking for the last few days, I think it was the spacer that failed and over time with the ring breaking off the spacer its caused movement between the hub and wheel, which then caused the wheel bolts to loosen over time.
Or the wheel hub failed but I think it’s the spacer.
Got a new hub/bearing coming today £246 from TPS. I looked everywhere for a aftermarket one but couldn’t find one.
