I've given up trying to source an uprated gearbox mount without getting a track focused version too harsh for day to day driving, so I am going to fit a new original mount with a Powerflex insert.

My question is are the 2* mounts listed for the 8P interchangeable?

8P0 199 555    : To - 05.03.2012

8P0 199 555 A : From - 05.03.2012 onwards.

Im assuming the 'A' revision is just an updated part?

Does anyone know for sure?

:D

It’ll be either a superseded part that’s had a slight design change or been made by a different supplier.

Thanks Sean, just wondering if anyone had used the newer part for confirmation  :)

I’m sure the new mount on its own would be a great improvement but it’s an ideal time to fit the insert. TBH the only graunchy changes are 1st to 2nd but as long as the clunking stops I’ll be happy 😊

I had a new mount replaced under warranty end of 2017. Huge improvement. I didn’t opt to use any inserts and so far it’s still proving to be solid. If it goes I may throw some of the inserts in.

Have you had a chance to drive it yet rob? What do you make of the idle vibrations? I find it strange how the moment you apply the accelerator it goes instantly.

Just goes to show the joys of the 5 cylinder design and the offbeat resonance it produces Jay

The NVH drops a fair bit once it’s warmed up as well

Well to finish my install, as advised by RS3Dell I needed to swap out my 034 dogbone mount for a Powerflex insert. With the Gearbox mount insert and the 034 the NVH was pretty bad .

Firstly removed the 034:

And unlike most others it’s not bent:

Comparison of the 034 & Powerflex showing how much extra the Powerflex fills the voids:

Next push the insert into the bush. Only possible by using a jack I found as it’s a very tight fit. Use a flat surface on the jack such as a wooden block to avoid damaging the insert. Oh and if you’re going to do this leave the old bolt done up in the bush whilst pushing the insert in. This took me 2 attempts as with the bolt out the jacking must have moved the dogbone arm as the bolt wouldn’t re-engage in the top bush. With the old bolt left in whilst you fit the insert you avoid any issues:

Finally fit the 2 washers in the insert kit with a new bolt torqued up to 100Nm +90 degrees:

Final result is perfect. Barely noticeable NVH and clean, smooth gear changes

Got this exact same set up too. No complaints! Big improvement. Cost effective.

This is great stuff! I have mine ready to fit when I can find some time... also have my anti lift kit to fit!

Chuffed the powerflex insert has done the trick so well, I don’t even realise the idle vibrations anymore as it just feels ‘right’ haha.

Did yous do a gearbox adaption after fitting the dogbone mount by the way?

Yes I did it just before fitting TBH so it could re-learn with the new setup

What’s all this guys?! I didn’t do this.

Just bought OBDEleven. Couldn’t stomach the price for vcds, considering my usage. Should I consider doing an adaption? Changing the dsg oil next weekend.

Rob.

Great tip about leaving the old bolt in so everything stays in line when fitting the Powerflex insert.👍

Ollie the adaption resets the gearbox to a factory setting inclusive of wear and tear as far as I understand it. It finds clutch biting points at certain pressures and can really help with lumpy gear changes.

An empty car park helps if I remember correctly!

Sure someone can give a better explanation of what it does but as far as I understand it, that’s it in a nutshell.
