Next Golf R to have 400hp

Been there, done that, got the better car.

I didn’t say it was the current one did I ?

Wonder how much headroom there will be in the turbo, I appreciate turbos and engine design has made big leaps but still cant imagine there will be much left on the table for tuners? Hopefully they stick on mahoosive turbo and theres some kind of hybrid to torque fill lower down.  

 

On a side note i really wish VW would build a rocco on the MQB its one of the prettiest mass produced cars ever IMO. If it was more affordable id love to buy a smashed up 8p and stick the engine and drivetrain into one.

Totally agree and I did look into doing this on my Rocco before I sold it. The cost was massive but also the only company who had time in the next 18 months said I would have to agree an estimate price with no garauntee it wouldn’t cost more. There’s even a look specialist I know who could have altered a FL dash to go in and keep all functions. If I will the lottery I would still do it because anything is possible if your pockets are deep enough. I love my RS3 but if I could have trade my R in for a 4wd version I would have done that.

In reality I will be sticking with the RS3 which is the best all round car I’ve had so far. 😃

Thought the R was 4WD? Some people do put RS3 engines in them, I heard one Maidenhead way a while back.

The Roco R was never 4motion only the Golf R was........

Yup my Roc R is 100% FWD. It was to do with the mixture of the chassis if I remember correctly, as the Scirocco has different rear suspension than the Golf. All before MOB I might add...

Hi Terminator - I had a Scirocco R which was 2WD sadly.

VW have done this before - this was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2015 - but never went into production

Maybe, but it’ll need a bigger power hike to ‘boss’ the R me thinks.

this was before i was in a position to get an RS3 so i was all about the golf R and i remember watching these stories loads.... the r400 was a beast but apparently the only reason it didn't get produced back then was because of the emission scandal hitting and all 'unnecessary' projects were shelved immediately (according to R forum)

Well it's 100hp ahead today so presumably that gap will just stay as is?

I can’t see it jumping 80-100 HP if the R does get a big hike.

You look at the revisions on the 3 over time and it’s been 30 odd HP increase each time.

If you look at the mappers 500hp seems easy to achieve for the FL.

Same as 430hp was easy to achieve on the PFL TX

Interesting, as the Golf R has always been side by side with the S3 engine wise, does that mean the next gen S3 will also be 400BHP?

Exactly my thoughts, which does make you doubt if it’ll ever happen.
