It would be pretty poor if the Golf got 400hp and the S3 didn't, especially as it is supposed to be the premier brand of the 2.
Next Golf R to have 400hp

VW can’t make a 300-310 bhp R without having turbo problems. From that I can’t see them using their 2 litre motor.
As previously said Golf R and S3 and Leon Cupra all share the same engine usually.
That would be a very expensive move for them as that’d mean the RS3 would need to be 460bhp standard.

It’s usually Audi that’s put in the same hyper hatch category.
To be honest if everything does get a power hike it’s only us that’s going to benefit so bring it on

Yea the new A45 will be 400. But that is a Hyper Hatch with a price tag to match. I would guess 360-380 for the next golf R / S3. The GTI is going to need to get close to 300 to take it to the new megane RS and try and get away from the Hyundai i30N.
I think the limitation for the RS3 with be the TTRS. Porsche will likely not allow a TTRS to be putting out 911 Carrera S numbers so i would imagine Audi to take the 2.5 to around 420/430 and call it a day.
I love the hot hatch market full of rivalry and hooniganism only found in this segment. Ill be a hot hatch driver for life i think.

They have to build in acceptable tolerances for a car that will be made in the thousands. I agree with the 430 bhp figure, theres clearly plenty of headroom in this engine for more power but Audi won't turn it up to max. It has to remain less powerful than the RS4 and RS5.

A 400bhp Golf would be fast and fun............but it has a cylinder missing to make it that extra bit special.
now driving a 'Daytona Lite' FL car.

There has been talk of VW running the Audi 5 cylinder engine... There was a Tiguan R on the Nurburgring testing with a 5 cylinder warble. Personally I cant see why VAG would do that as they would be cannibalising sales if the RS and R were running the same engine.

Can't see that happening either Cox, no way would the RS3 engine end up in a Golf. Mapped to 400 maybe.

Yeah I can’t see that happening either. Loads of cost to get the same overall sales between the 2 cars.
Now if they had put in in Rocco I would have sold my balls to get one.😂

Totally with you on that one. Scirocco is still a head-turning car. Maybe with a big big Lotto win I would transplant one hahahah

Hmmmm, new A35 has been launched to compete against the R and S3, I asume VW Audi will ensure the BHP of their own cars match this spec wise. The A45, though that's the RS3 benchmark for power when the next A3 chassis arrives later next year.
