Apologies for the essay / rant. What is it with dealers?
I'm fairly interested in a FL RS3 with no trade-in & finance not essential. Never owned an Audi before. Been to two dealers today.
The first was going to give me a quick run in a second-hand RS3 until HE asked about the discount to get the deal done. When I told him what I wanted he scurried off to his manager and came back to say not a penny was available. This was not totally unexpected but then no offer of the test drive as he obviously thought that was the end of it. Told me I should try elsewhere as he knew discounts were available.
The next was Perth Audi. I arrived, to be met at the door by an overconfident lad that must be on BMW's payroll. Apparently he is not going to have a new RS3 available "for at least a year". I asked the question twice as I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was offered a new TTRS as an alternative. No asking for details, no interest in the spec of the car I want, just no interest in general. Is this what I can expect when I'm considering spending circa £53k?
Any thoughts?

I wouldn't say your experience is entirely typical of the Audi sales process. Normally they treat you quite well until you've actually parted with your cash then proceed to treat you like a complete cnt.

Try Glasgow Audi, you could wander about that place for years before being looked after. Then you'd have to convince them to sell you a car of course. Avoid!. That said, try Aylesbury Audi ask for Raheel. He sold me a Q3 recently. Yup, distance is no object.

LOL, obviously they are making a living too easily. I'm not that worried about aftersales as all of my servicing will be done by an independent.

Many thanks. Glasgow Audi is part of the Lookers Group so they will have the same policies as Ayr, Edinburgh, Hamilton & Stirling. Like you, I have no problem in going south. It would just have been more convenient to find one in the north.

I've dealt with quite a few Audi dealers and from a sales perspective East Kent were good (part of Inchcape) and also Huntingdon (part of Vindus Group).

I recently dealt with hamilton Audi for my wifes new car, i had a horrible experience first time round 2 years ago and didnt purchase anything, There is a new sales manager in and he is right into his performance cars. I dealt with him directly then was passed over to scott to finish off the deal. i was mega impressed with the service and they kept on at me to buy my RS3 for stock. I would maybe give them a chance. Harry is the sales manager

Thanks for your post above and hopefully it will help someone out. What you say has hit the nail on the head. It's often just down to the initial response of the individuals and their enthusiasm or lack of it.

I've now had a good experience with Gordon Rough at Aberdeen Audi and would certainly recommend him. He was enthusiastic without being pushy and obviously enjoys selling the product. I'm now looking forward to an RS3 arriving in March.

Yip, agree with you on the Lookers group........waste of time.

3 times i have been in there (Edinburgh) over the past 2 months to enquire about S/B & Saloon.....not 1 person has asked for ANY contact details.

So I've now missed the demo cars and no one in sales knows when a RS3 Saloon will next be available.....shocking service.

I'm spending my ££'s elswhere........

I ended up spending my £££ at Tetbury Audi - will have a nice 350+ mile run in the car home  :D  Did the same last time with Crawley Audi and saved myself over £7.5k on Glasgow Audi's best offer...

Dealt with Bristol Audi on the FL.
Hard hard work to be honest, no interest in you as a customer, or in keeping you interested as a future loyal customer.

Almost like an Automated sale in some ways.

Not the experience buying a new car should be in my opinion.

I find arrogance is rife among some dealerships almost like they don’t care if you buy the car or not.........

Just a quick update on this thread in case it helps anyone in the future. I collected my FL Sportback from Aberdeen Audi on 3rd March after snow halted proceedings on the 1st.
As above, I dealt with Gordon Rough throughout the sale and he has been great. He patiently answered my questions and did exactly as he said he would do. The car was ordered in good time for an 18 plate delivery but was hanging around for only a couple of weeks.
I asked for the car to be left uncleaned, without plates and it was. All in all a good experience and one that I would gladly repeat.

I phoned Glasgow in the week, they offered £200 at best off a 53k car !, I guess they're not chasing sales targets

With new orders being postponed, possibly until 2019, and the RS3 being such a small part of their total range it will make very little difference to their sales targets.

There is nothing I can think of in a new, small, 4wd hatch that will touch this even though it’s a bit overpriced if you start ticking the options list. It’s well worth making quite a few calls to save a £k or two if you are so inclined.

Didn't buy a car from them but can only say good things about the sales staff at Perth Audi. Dealt with Steve Windsor and Gary Bell who arranged a test drive in an RS3 that wasn't the spec I was looking for but was a very positive experience anyway and they were willing to negotiate. Gary even called me and sent a video for another RS3 that came in the following week which had the spec but not the colour I was looking for. Of course it's not a beginning to end sale experience but a good one none the less.

Maybe I shouldn’t have turned up at Perth Audi in a noisy old Subaru Forester. The kid I met at the door was maybe the bouncer trying to keep out the riff-raff.

Over the last 15yrs I've bought more than ten cars from Audi Perth, a great team of guys, never once has there been any problem resolving any query or issue I've had. Excellent sales team and also after care. only briefly talked with Dundee and Aberdeen during process of replacing a car was treated poorly at best and never called back.
