Could someone please help me understand what sizes id need to get if i upgraded to 20". ive got absoloutly no clue. Ive always been happy with the wheels that have came on my car but would like to change these so this is all new to me.

Would 8.5 x 20 ET40 fit all round? What would be the best tire size to fit to that?

i dont want anything rubbing or poking out to much.

I also plan on lowering it on H&R springs too.

Any help would be appreciated.

I’m running 235/30/20, on OZ Dakar’s. I have a set of H&R springs for sale, which have covered less than 500 miles.

8.5J ET45 is pretty much perfect fit, so 5mm out from that would need at least a bit of a stretch on the tyre, maybe 235s would still work. I know 8.5 ET45 and 255s on the rear will rub on a lowered car.

I was trying to fit a set of Rotis with 255/30R19s on a 19x8.5ET45 wheel and because the spokes fouled on the caliper we tried 10mm spacers to see where it would clear and this is the result (so basically 8.5 ET35 with 255/35 Michelin PS4):

That wheel is too far out, if I'd run them like that they'd rub for sure. ANd not just on the inside/back of the arch but on the lip. ET40 would be 5mm in from that so would fit while static. I don't think you'd clear the tyre shoulder on the arch though with any compression or on a lowered car, even with a 255/25 (which would be the same rolling radius as the 255/35R19). Those Michelins have a pretty blocky profile though, very square shoulders so it's pretty hard to say for sure. I think on 8.5 ET40 you won't get away with 255s.

With the standard tyre size & off set you won't go wrong even when you lower it a bit  :)

Its a mine field other wise !  :(

Dell.

Audi did do a 20" option, so you can still stick to OEM sizes but go up a rim diameter size. Apparently you could stagger them with fronts 9Jx20 ET50 255/25, rears 8Jx20 ET45 235/30 or just get 8Jx20 ET49 235/30 all round. So if you are set on going for 20s safely, those sizes will definitely clear.

You wont need to. I’m running MSS Springs, Conti Sport Contact 6 and H&R ARB at the back. I was on the 255’s on the front. It drives so much better now, pretty much zero understeer, sharper turn in - Just so much better. The combination of the three upgrades, its pretty much perfect and how the car should have driven from factory.
