Hi Guys

Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on this.

I specced my car last week and due to not being ready till January I've got a couple of months to change my mind on specs.

I did not add the sports exhaust to the spec for £1000 and just plan on getting a aftermarket exhaust such as miltek.

Am i better off doing this or just getting the sports exhaust?

Thanks

If it was a PFL model then 100% yes to the sports exhaust but if what is said to be true and the FL sports exhaust has been muted then it may be worth investing in an aftermarket exhaust, although sports exhaust with de-cats should be a cheaper option then a full Miltek?

The FL is muted on the overrun feature. So no crackle pops.
It still sounds beasty though .

My recommendation would be to go with the Audi sports exhaust 100%. Add secondary decats and it's happy days .

The 5 cyl is known for its exotic note. Go sports exhaust mate.

FL sounds great just no "madness" as pops, bangs etc have been removed when the revs spike up. Crazy move from Audi imho but there you go. Makes the decision for sports exhaust on the FL so much harder as it doesn't seem to be that different to non sports exhaust.

Audi did a pretty good job with the OEM sports exhaust on the pre-FL. Add some secondary dectas and in my opinion you have a great sound that is actually better than adding a Milltek.

The vid below shows a rev off between my car with OEM sports + secondary decat (white car on left) and a friends car with secondary decat and Milltek cat back system. Note Stock down pipe on either car and both have stage 2 tune.

First revving is the white car with OEM sports & decat followed by orange car with Milltek catback & seondary decat. White car revs again and then Orange car is at the end. They sound a bit mixed up in the timing of the revving but I think you can hear a difference between the two. You can decide which you prefer. (crank the sound up to get the best effect :))

If you can get a similar result with decats on the FL car then it should sound ok.

I test drove a new RS3 last week and it sounded so lame compared to mine with sports exhaust and milltek decat pipes!

There's your third option, have the PFL exhaust fitted....with de-cats obviously. Not to everyones preference, but as Caney says, sports exhaust with de-cats is ridiculous!

Pops and bangs on FL... aren’t down to the exhaust itself I believe.... it’s down to the tuning and fueling in overrun in the map

Exactly right.
My mate has a tuned FL and it crackles and pops. Beautiful overrun feature

Are you talking about PFL or FL?! Bog standard FL does it at idle just not when moving.

FL TX.
Only coz it's tuned it's got the pops and bangs. But yes I agree the stock version is muted.

Wait for the official Audisport Akrpaovic exhaust to get released? Though when that might be nobody knows. The TTRS one has been shown at the big Car Shows this year, though I'm yet to see any dynamic engine running videos of that car. I reckon that should sound pretty similar to the PFL exhaust, wouldn't be surprised that they had a hand in ensuring the upgraded FL exhaust sounds a bit less than perfect.

From what I remember Akrapovic refused to develop a PFL exhaust, I reckon they might have even helped Audi with the design of that PFL one to get the exclusive tie-in they revealed ealier this year.
