Hi, I'm having a problem with my MMI randomly shutting off and turning on itself while driving. It would turn on for a few second then goes back shutting off, keeps on repeating.

You can hear the relay clicking under the dash everytime the MMI shuts off and turning on.

Any one in the forum here experience the same problem as mine?

Could be one of the component is not working properly.

Would greatly appreciate if anyone here can share their opinion on this.

Thanks

You could try an MMI reset.

You need to hold 3 buttons down at the same time, the menu button, the main centre dial and the top right button (i.e. the one directly below the media toggle.)

Hold all three down and the system will reset. I can't promise it will cure your problem, but it's worth a try.

If you are local to London you could get in contact with @DJAlix at Vagcarcoding maybe a complete Odis scan and reset may reveal or cure the issue.

Unfortunately I'm not local to London.

I remembered that I've read somewhere else it has to do with the ignition switch causing the RNS-E to shut off randomly...

The only other thing I can think of to double check yourself is the Fuse.....
Locate it and check it’s seated fully home...or whip it out and see if there’s an issue with it.

Failing that you can buy the mmi removal tools cheap enough (similar principle to the RNS-E removal) you can try removing the glovebox unit and double check the connections just in case someone else (previous owner / dealer) has had it out for some reason.

Failing that your mmi unit may need an update / reset at your dealer or replacing which isn’t too bad a job for them......

You may need to drive along with someone recording on a phone when it happens that way you cut out the ‘it doesn’t do it when the Tech drove it’ excuse.

I thought I should share an update regarding this matter.

Decided to open up the steering column cover and wiggle the ignition switch connection while the key was in the lock.

Test drove it, turns out well. Bring it for a drive at night and the issue hasn't come back since.
