I am giving up. Looks like these cars are only reliable for a short time.

So after fault finding the funny rattle/chatter i heard and finding what i think is the problem with the lower fan belt hitting the boost pipe at certain times. The wife came home from work this afternoon, as soon as she pulled in i went outside asking if she cannot hear that the car sounds funny. Almost like a missfire but at the rear of the car it actually sounded fine .... standing next to the car it sounded very strange almost like a whobble, not sure how to describe it. Took the car for a drive it sounded fine and drive smooth got at the shops and it sounded like it's missfiring. Went home use my andriod OBD app with the elm327 connector and see P0304 missfire cyl 4.
So quickly swapped coil packs around. Clear the codes and start the engine .... same thing cyl 4 so took out the plugs and 4 is wet ..... hmmm..... swap it with cyl 5 and refit everything and reset codes start the engine and shortly missfire cyl 4 pops up.
Now i must mention that at the start of checking the car it was starting to properly miss. And everytime i reset and start it would run ok for about 1min and then start.

I took out plug 4 again and it was very wet. Piston looks wet when looling from the top. It didnt really smell like fuel but it was dark fluid like oil ontop. So pulled dipstick .... this slightly smelled like fuel so now i not 100% sure what could be the cause if there was something wrong with the piston there would be allot more oil and it would realy sound very sick. Also the oil level would drop allot .... the oil level in this cas was still at it's normal mark.

Car is booked to go to them i havr arranged for them to pick it up as i dont want to drive it at all and risk more damage.

If no4 injector is sticking open it could be putting so much fuel in that it won`t fire. Hence it won`t burn the oil off that plug .

As above sounds like a bad injector. I believe that the new part is 8v injectors and 8p ones are no longer listed.

In regards to smell of fuel in the oil with these direct injection engines you do get more bore wash and will get more fuel escaping into the oil.

Thanks guys for been so positive, i need some good news to cheer me up. This is our daily drive and the only one so it becomes a problem if we don't have a car to drive.

I really hope it's the jnjector and if they replace it with a new part then i would have loved to get all 5 but Audi would only replace 1 seeing as the car is under an extended warranty and buying these i ejectors out of my own pocket is like buying a new car in this F'up country stuff is stoopid expensive.
I will keep this page updated and report back.

Update ... Audi just phoned me as i suspected no compression on cyl 4 ... so i am in for some big costs, if my extended warranty decides to not pay. R13200 just to strip and quote. I am devestated and to think this is a stock car perhaps a good thing i never mapped it.

Gutted for you mate, I suppose it's one of the many niggles that seem to come with the 3 mate. Fingers crossed Audi cough up on the warranty side🤞👍

Warranty not with Audi, it an after market warranty from independent company. Audi this side don't offer extended warranties and to extend the motorplan it would be the cost of a proper small car.

But i will try to stay positive and hope all works out, i also told the guys to check all the logs etc and fuel trims etc as something must have caused this failure.

If your car is stock Jacques I can't imagine it won't be covered under warranty.

I'd be having a conversation with the service manager now and getting confirmation you're covered.

Good luck mate.

I will go to see them tomorrow, i already asked the service advisor if there would be any reason why the warranty company would not pay and they confirmed that there is nothing.
The only thing that does make me scared of them possibly not wanting to pay is the price.
I even asked why it's so expensive to strip and quote the excuse was that it is an RS car i then told them that is a load of bull as stripping an RS or stripping any other car is still stripping why would it be more. Funny they hd no answer for me .... i spoke to another guy that had a friend whos RS3 dropped a piston as well the pistons and rods allone was over R50 000 ... a new engine apparently over R100 000. I almost had a heart attack

Just ensure you have warranty for the entire period you own the car and you should be ok.

I hear what your saying mate but I have 12months free with Audi. Once this is up I will be doing my own service work and any big more complicated jobs will take it to a specialist. I don't normally ever bother with aftercare warrantys as most of the time they ain't worth the paper they are written on but instead to put that cash away for a rainy day instead. Over the last few years I've started to do my own works to my cars just the usual oil filters and brakes jobs and don't mind getting my hands dirty for the right cause. But most importantly I have read and found out my self that most of these manufacturers including Audi,I wouldn't trust them to run me a bath😂

I hope I haven't jinxed myself now with the 3, otherwise im going to look a price p...k🤣🤣🤣

Oh my word that is allot of money for a new engine .... converted to ZAR it would be to much and they will right the car off.

I think exchange rate is now R22 for 1 pound ... :-)

not sure how much it would be when it comes from the factory to us.

I dont even know if they can fix the block as you can feel the ridge where the piston scraped
