Attached File  Haldex1.jpg   37.24K   58 downloads

46K miles now on the car and almost a year after I first started having problems but no fault codes

Had the Haldex oil service last September that appears to have made it last for a while but eventually it's died.

Does anyone that has had theirs replaced know if Audi changed the filter (that doesn't exist as its fitted for life, non service item even though you can allegedly get replacements) as part of the pump replacement.

Hang on I have answered my own question. This is Audi we are talking about, of course they wouldn't replace a filter if they claim it's not serviceable and lasts the lifespan of the car.

Ok let me ask an intelligent question. Has anyone confirmed that there is a filter that can be replaced on the Haldex on our cars? Seen a few GEN 4 Haldex filters advertised for @ £30.

Don't fancy having a new pump fitted but only to have it fail prematurely due to a scabby filter I can change.

No Filter showing on the parts database Duke.........

It's a shame as the earlier Gen Haldex have the small filter that is changed when the Haldex oil is done.

Thanks for looking T. That's exactly what I found as well. If I get time I will get under the car and have a look myself before it goes in for repair. If there is one it will be under an elliptical cover plate with 2* bolts. Most likely near to the pump.

Being a member of this not-too-exclusive club I can tell you there is a replaceable filter and if you snoop around Ebay you'll find all the stuff you need if you have parts numbers handy.

I was pretty shocked at how much crap the filter had collected given such a small apparently closed system - and it's certainly not a lifetime piece of kit. Can't recall just now but I think the service book calls for it to be replaced occasionally. (too lazy to go find the book, basically! - sorry)

Cheers Red exactly what I suspected. Seen a few videos on similar haldex servicing (Volvo) that use the same filter.

Yup T-800 that's the one I saw although there is a cheaper one without the seal assembly as well.

Interesting as the replacement cover has cooling vanes but the original is just flat.

It's as ridiculous as the S-tronic situation......

Changeable filter on the Gearbox but there is a large filter in the gearbox that is never changed because there is no access to it.
I've been told they get absolutely filthy by a guy that works on DSG boxes all the time.

I've had this fault pop up several times on VCDS but Audi are saying it isn't there end so it's not been replaced as of yet since I've owned the car.

I also had the Haldex service completed last year and the fault hasn't come up since to be fair. But like yourself may be a case of time.

I'm assuming the filter can't be replaced without another oil change? If it can maybe a tutorial would be appreciated to DIY.

The more I read these forums the less I trust Audi to service / look after my car...  :o

Plenty of info on another forum regarding Drain hole & Haldex fluid level hole positions JayRS3.......

Some info here, obviously the controller change doesn't apply.

Looks quite straightforward to be fair.

Mine has just gone. New pump is £202 from TPS. Rather than sending it back to Audi to faff around with I'm just paying it myself.

I`m sure these pumps are the same as fitted to some Volvos at half the price.

Im sure you are correct Raptor. The only difference will be the wiring loom.

Looks like they use the same filter as well:

I think the concensus from this thread would be to get the filter done at the same time Rick and do the job properly.

Unlike Audi apparently.
