Basic OTR price is a considerable increase though. Plus why is the saloon worth that much extra??

Working on it. My spec comes to £54k  so the numbers probably won't work for me but we'll see.
I'm collecting the new S4 in a couple of weeks so that'll do me if the RS3 doesn't work out.

Have we ceramics on the list or have we been fooled again by Audi?

If you are trading in an 8V for the FL you'll need to find at least 20k plus your part ex on a 55k specced car which is where most will be with decent options ticked....

If your renting then I dread to think what the monthly payments will be

The cars are built to a price dictated by accountants and need to compete with base prices of other comparable manufacturers models[M/AMG] so anything that is not essential the falls under the category of chargeable extras. If you go back to the 1970s i remember my father speccing a Mercedes 450 sel 6.9 which was the flagship model,  a radio/cassete  was even an option as the car didn't come with one as standard.

Near side door mirror on old Fords was an option extra in the 70s & early 80s.

On RS3 or just TTRS?

Tbf that isn't bad for ceramics as a big brake kit would be £2-3k wouldn't it?
